A summer job can be a steppingstone toward a dream career. That’s exactly what happened to Jenna Salmela, who is spending her summer at Innokas working in software testing.

Jenna, a second-year Information Technology student at Oulu University of Applied Sciences, joined Innokas for the summer after a timely opportunity arose through her university network. “Not long after the initial contact, I received a call, and now I’m here,” Jenna explains.

Getting started with automation

‍

Jenna has begun her journey at Innokas with automated testing-related tasks. “I’ve been creating automated tests for now, and it’s already quite close to what I’d like to do in the future – that being software development, particularly embedded software,” she says. Although she hasn’t yet had the chance to do actual development work at Innokas, she’s feeling inspired: “I hope I’ll get to do more coding as the summer goes on.”

Jenna’s interest in programming sparked through hands-on experience. “In a previous job, I created an Excel template and automated it. That’s when I realized I enjoy thinking through logic and building functional solutions. That’s where my interest in IT really began.”

Supportive work environment

The work community at Innokas has made a strong impression. “The people here are friendly and willing to give me responsibility. My supervisor, Leena, has been a rock I can rely on,” Jenna says. She also feels a strong connection to Innokas’ values: quality, expertise, responsibility, and meaningfulness. “You can’t cut corners working with medical software. The quality standards are higher than in any of my previous jobs, and I like that. I want to do things properly.”

Looking ahead, Jenna sees herself working with embedded systems, possibly at Innokas. “If we continue working together after my studies, that would be great,” she says.
