The right project can open the door to working life in a meaningful way. For Kasperi Sänkiniemi, that door led to Innokas.

Kasperi has been with Innokas since January 2026. He first joined as a trainee to work on a company project, and is now completing his thesis on the production side. His current work focuses on communication between a collaborative robot, or cobot, and a tester.

The work includes coding, planning, meetings and communication, giving Kasperi a broad look into everyday engineering work at Innokas.

“It has been relatively independent work, and I’ve had the possibility to build my own schedule,” Kasperi says.

Finding Innokas through networks

Kasperi is a fourth-year Information and Communications Technology student at Oulu University of Applied Sciences, specialising in device-oriented ICT. His path to Innokas began through Tapio Parkkinen, Senior mechanics engineer at Innokas, whom he met through engineering and student engineering activities in Oulu.

After hearing about a project topic at Innokas, Kasperi became interested and decided to take the opportunity.

In his first company project, Kasperi worked with the transfer of tester reports to the company. Now, in his thesis work, he has moved closer to production and automation through the cobot-related topic.

For Kasperi, this is also a reminder that networks make a real difference in connecting the right talent with the right companies.

Inspired by practical technology

At Innokas, Kasperi has been guided by Tapio Parkkinen as his main supervisor, with Innokas software engineer Jani Arponen supporting him as a technical advisor. He says their experience in the field has been clearly visible in the way they guide the work.

Kasperi has also been inspired by the wide range of devices and technologies at Innokas.

“At Innokas, there are all kinds of different devices from one end to another, so device-oriented ICT is easy to work with here,” he says.

A warm welcome and open atmosphere

Alongside the technical work, Kasperi has appreciated the atmosphere at Innokas. He describes the welcome as warm and says the coffee table community has made it easy to get to know people.

“I like the close coffee group and the openness. You can talk to everyone,” he says.

One thing that has stood out to him is the monthly breakfast held on the first Wednesday of each month. “I think it’s a great idea to keep people connected, even in a company as flexible as this,” Kasperi says.

For Kasperi, Innokas has offered a practical and welcoming environment to grow as a future engineer. It has given him the chance to apply his studies to real technology, learn from experienced professionals and become part of an open work community.
