Innokas is on the path if strategic renewal. Building on its strong foundation as a trusted CDMO in the medical device sector, the company has steadily expanded into the design and manufacturing of demanding electromechanical devices in industrial high technolgy. Now, it is taking a focused step into dual-use products for the defense industry, guided by a clear commitment to sustainability. CEO Janne Kostamo shares key insights into this new chapter.
Innokas is largely known as a longstanding contract manufacturer and design partner for medical devices, with over thirty-year history. “This area continues to form the cornerstone of the strategy, and it’s not going anywhere,” Janne promises. “We are actively investing in growing our sales team and aim for further growth in this sector. Long-standing experience and expertise in strict regulations provide a solid foundation for building the future”
Expertise in medical devices has opened doors to the industrial sector as well. Innokas has expanded into the manufacturing and design of other challenging electromechanical solutions that require precision, regulatory knowledge, and technological depth. This expansion has already led to growth in new markets, but now we are seeking to focus our efforts on a particular new industry.
The most significant new strategic initiative for Innokas is entering the defense and dual-use industry.
“We chose to enter this market because we want to do our part in strengthening and elevating Nordic defense industry expertise and bringing global visibility to Nordic innovations,” Janne shares.
Innokas already has several ongoing projects and customers in this sector to further the goal of becoming a strong contract manufacturing partner for Finnish and Nordic defense companies. “We have completed the NATO AQAP 2110 certification process for our Kempele and Tallinn factories to support this goal. This opens opportunities for NATO-related manufacturing and prepares us for the broader international defense market,” Janne shares about the ongoing activities.
“The demand for carbon footprint calculations and supply chain transparency is growing, and we’re actively developing our capabilities to respond to that need. We’ve evaluated our suppliers and carefully considered material choices,” Janne explains. “We take circular economy principles into account right from the beginning of our product development projects, and we’re committed to supporting our customers in assessing the environmental impact of their products.”
Innokas’s strategic renewal is grounded in its strengths: deep expertise in regulated industries, a growing portfolio of demanding electromechanical solutions, and a clear commitment to sustainability. By expanding into dual-use and defense sectors, the company is opening new growth paths and contributing to Nordic resilience and innovation. With trusted partnerships and responsible practices at its core, Innokas is working towards a future where technology, security, and sustainability go hand in hand.
“The future looks promising,” Janne finishes. “The strategy is clear, the focus areas well-considered, and the growth opportunities diverse. The company is building its future responsibly, with technological advancement and customer-centricity in focus.”
